3.21: Understand that the Sex of a Person is Controlled by One Pair of Chromosomes, XX in a Female and XY in a Male

The 23rd Chromosome of Each Sex Cell Determines the Gender:

  • Two X Chromosomes Makes a Person a Female (XX)

  • One X and One Y Chromosome Makes a Person a Male (XY)

EXPLANATION:
  • Egg Cells will Only Carry X Chromosomes
  • Half of Sperm Cells will Carry X Chromosomes, Other Half will Carry Y Chromosomes
  • Sperm Cell (Male Gamete) Determines the Gender of the Offspring as they can Carry Either Chromosomes to Produce a Male or a Female
