3.30: Describe the Process of Evolution by Means of Natural Selection

EVOLUTION: Process by Which the Range of Organisms on Earth Change

NATURAL SELECTION: Process in Which New Species Continually Arise from Species that Already Exist

HOW NATURAL SELECTION OCCURS:

NATURAL SELECTION
Diagram showing the Evolution of Snails by Natural Selection
EXPLANATION:
  • Organism will Undergo Variation caused by Mutations
  • Mutated Organism that is Better Adapted to Environment will Survive
  • They will Reproduce, Pass on Gene and Produce Offspring
  • Offspring will carry Same Mutated Gene so Overtime, Population of Mutated Organism Better Adapted to Environment will Increase

USING DIAGRAM:
  • Snails will Undergo Variation caused by Mutations
  • Snail with White Shell is Better Adapted to Environment as they have Camouflage so will Survive
  • Snails with White Shells will Reproduce, Pass on Gene and Produce Offspring
  • Offspring will Contain Same Gene that causes White Shells so Overtime, Population of Snails with White Shells will Increase
